Ghana's Ambassador to Denmark with concurrent accreditation to Sweden, Her Excellency Amerley Ollennu Awua-Asamoa is a career woman with exhaustive experience in Strategic Human Resource Management and Gender & Development related issues in both the formal and informal sectors.
Prior to her appointment as Ambassador, she was the Executive Director of Association of African Women in Development (AAWID), a Ghanaian local Non-Governmental Organization operating at the grassroot level for the socio-economic empowerment of the marginalized.
Before dedicating her full time to AAWID, she worked with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as a Human Resource Management Practitioner. In ECG she held several Managerial and leadership positions and retired as General Manager in charge of Performance and Rewards Management. Hitherto, she served as the Head of Women's Desk at the World Federation of UN Association (WFUNA) Africa Office in Ghana.
Her recognized key accomplishments include Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Association of African Women in Development, Vice President of Society for Women and AIDS in Africa (SWAA) Ghana. Balance Score Card Professional. Deeply knowledgeable in gender advocacy, she established a well-deserved reputation during her time at ECG for her ability to rise through the ranks in a male-dominated environment to become the first female Manager in the Company; was very vocal in championing for Gender Mainstreaming and the development and implementation of HIV Workplace Policy in ECG. For two consecutive times, she held the position of National President of Power Queens (the Ladies Association in ECG). She has an impressive track record in Events Management, Field Educator in Primary Health care where she partnered with renowned Health institutions to implement Projects in the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana.
She has strong educational background in the following fields: Executive Masters in Business Administration from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration; Diploma in Principles of Management from The College of Professional Management, Jersey Britain; Master of Arts in Development Studies with specialty in Women and Development from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands and Bachelor of Arts (Law and Sociology) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Madam Ambassador is also a product of Apam Secondary School and Kumasi Academy where she had her Advance and Ordinary level education respectively. For her elementary education, she attended Mmofraturo Girls Boarding School in Kumasi.
Further to this, she has engaged in versatile professional memberships: Ghana Institute of Management, Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP) and Network for Women's Rights; (NETRIGHT) Ghana.
She was born in 1956 to the late Justice Nii Amaa Ollennu, the Speaker of Parliament in the 2nd Republic of Ghana and the late Nana Afua Frema Busia Former Queen Mother of Wenchi Traditional Area in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana; married with three children and a Christian.
The Ambassador arrived in Denmark on the 8th of September 2017 and presented her credentials to Her Majesty Queen Magarethe II of the Royal Kingdom of Denmark on the 15th of September 2017.
